I’ve put this post off a little too long but the more shows and events I attend guest ask the same question. “What is Hoplahoma?” Now, with my background in design I feel most things need a story and relatable to you the viewer. Sure you come up with crazy ideas that may not turn out to be anything but sometimes a sketch could translate into a meaningful mascot for your general interest. Beer has become more than a beverage to enjoy with friends and has taken a role as hobby and career for many in this state. My intention with this is serendipitous as I try to connect Oklahoma and craft beer culture.
The hop cone has become somewhat of an icon and mascot for the independent brewers and hand crafted beers, especially IPAs that are making the most noise these days. (Rightly so, in my opinion.) So why not combine a hop cone with an iconic symbol from Oklahoma like the buffalo. I sketched away and being my own worst critic that I am sort of put it off thinking no one would be into this. That’s where the brain works it’s best magic, by creating something and letting it linger in the subconscious, followed by lots of beer, does it come to me. Connect it with a phrase that combines the beer industry and Oklahoma. Thus Hoplahoma was formed.
That being said, I was not the originator of said word. Mustang Brewing released a red ipa several years back with the same moniker but has since brewed it. Yet my intent wasn’t for a beer release but more of an iconic image that gives local beer drinkers something to take pride in, a mascot of sorts. So perhaps when you are traveling outside of the state you can show off the fact that we have a competitive, teeming industry of quality breweries.
Legacy offers a unique lineup of comfortable tees with a vintage look. You’ll notice these tees will get broken in with every wash. Another reason I have chosen Legacy is their use of environmentally friendly water-based inks. Also, a pre-treat solution is added to provide long lasting graphics. I invite you to try one on and make them the pride of Oklahoma craft beer lovers.
