(Just bought a ticket on StubHub for Cards vs. Brewers a week from now in Milwaukee. So pumped it lined up with the Beer Bloggers Conference!)
There is a phrase that goes something like no one should meet their hero. I don’t know if it is because after building these people up on pedestals you might face disappointment when they don’t meet your expectations. I’m willing to roll the dice when I go to Milwaukee a week from today to attend the Beer Bloggers Conference #BBC17. An event filled with sampling beers, learning about the craft industry from speakers of CraftBeer.com and the Smithsonian Food History Program. An incredible lineup but my heart soared when I learned we would have a session identifying and describing flavor, smell and color with none other than Randy Mosher!!!
OK, if you’re not a big beer geek like me you’re probably scratching your head and Googling the name. Randy is probably the most renowned beer writer since Michael Jackson (no, not that guy) and educator of all things beer. I wrote a small book report a while back about his book, Tasting Beer, which practically serves as a study guide for the Cicerone Certification program. If you really want to delve into the minutiae of history, styles, flavors, profiles, serving and pairing with food then this is your book. He also freelances with other national beer publications like DRAFT and All About Beer magazine.
So to have a first hand experience with Mr. Mosher is something I imagine people would be willing to pay a pretty penny to experience. Beers come with a wealth of descriptors and trying to remember every nuance is tough. So yes, I will probably be on the edge of my seat taking every word he says as gospel and YES, I am going to try and have him sign my book and of course I’m going to take a selfie with him. And I promise after all that to not make fun of anyone who does that with a Kardashian. Well…maybe a little.
