This week we dive into those craggy white heads of Hefeweizens, Weiss biers and American wheats. Half their grain bill consists of wheat that leaves an unfiltered hazy look but notes of clove, banana and coriander makes it smooth and refreshing.
Konig Ludwig – Weissbier
Paulaner – Hefe-Weizen
Ayinger – Brau Weisse
Marshall Brewing Co. – Sundown Wheat
COOP Ale Works – Elevator Wheat
Rahr & Sons – Summertime Wheat
Small Batch word: Unfiltered – Most German style Weissbier (white beer) are packaged unfiltered with yeast turbidity in the finished product. Hefeweizen literally translates to “yeast wheat” in German.
